Mechyard

My Final Animation

Wednesday 31 December 2008

This is the video from the part in Wind Waker which got me thinking about the black and white lifeless to colour theme for my animation. Also Link, as the main character is the only thing in colour and moving. Colour returning happens at about 3:35 in the timeline.

Intelligence

Animation involving robots, simple flash symbols used, basic premise done very well. Quirky subject and look.

Animation example

Deliberate, slow animation, simply done in flash. I think the scenes work well and it shows it was well thought out.

Okami in action. Like a book come alive.

Paper Mario and the Thousand year door. Really like the 2d paper characters and the whole theme of using paper throughout.

Black and white

Looking at the possibility of making a stark contrast within the animation, by maybe utilising black and white somehow in my piece.

Image from the independant comic Concrete, lines are kept to a minimum.

Black and white vector illustration, very beautiful and elegant looking.

Robot rabbit picture, short, constraned lines are used to create shape and texture. The image still has a lot of character and personaility, even without colour.

Cover with one colour used, draws attention while at the same time not detracting from the illustration.

Very gritty and rough used of black and white, using shadow to create a darker tone to the illustration and atmosphere.

Some interesting styles...

Subtle blue gradients in the main robot character along with the slightly jaunty lines makes this stand out to me.

An illustration by the design duo, Tado. Weird and wacky vector characters, very surreal so I like it!

A screenshot from "Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door". All the characters are made from paper to give a 2d vs 3d effect, and allowing for a multitude of designs to be achieved.

Piece of art called "panda girl". Brings up memories of watercolours but with a strong contemporary comic style twist.

Collage of "The Legend of Zelda, The Wind Waker" Very smooth, spiral lines used throughout. Really unique cel shaded look.

Initial ideas

I want to head towards a more industrial, mechanical theme, with the characters or the location or both. I especially like the mashed together, junk look to the scenes.
